Mngqithi: Hopes for improvements

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi feels bad luck has played a big role in the side's most recent PSL encounters after going winless in their last four.

Abafana Bes'thende's last PSL victory came at the end of October, a 2-0 success over Chippa United, but they followed it up with two defeats and a draw to sit 13th in the standings and out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Mngqithi, who succeeded Muhsin Ertugral at the Lamontville outfit, believes his team deserved more from their last two outings, a home defeat against Bloemfontein Celtic followed by a 2-2 draw against SuperSport United.

"We changed a lot of players for the game against Celtic and our performance was outstanding on the day and we created more than enough chances to win the match but were just unlucky," Mngqithi told SuperSport.

"The goal we conceded is still a mystery to me even though I had a chance to watch it several times. From this performance we went to our game against SuperSport United with hope that things were beginning to come together."

Looking back on the game against Matsatsantsa, in which they conceded the lead late on, Mngqithi added: "We were also very unfortunate to be forced to change our starting line up (against SuperSport) as result of Siyanda Zwane being injured during our warm-up and being forced to play Thami Mkhize, who I think had a wonderful match with the exception of a lapse of concentration for their first goal.?

"There are a lot of positives that we can take from these matches and hope that sooner rather than later we will be out of that danger zone."
