Palmer: Up for it

Black Leopards coach Ian Palmer says playing against double treble champions Orlando Pirates is exactly the kind of match his players thrive on.

Lidoda Duvha host the defending PSL champions at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, with the Limpopo side looking for a second successive victory which would hoist them to 15 points and as high as seventh place.

And while Palmer admits Leopards face a tough challenge against the Buccaneers, he remains confident his side can produce the goods.

"Pirates is never easy. They are chasing the title and we are in mid-table and this is the sort of challenges that the boys should rise up to," Palmer told Backpage TXT.

"I told the boys that if we have to be a force to be reckoned with we have to beat the likes of Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, not underestimating any smaller teams, so that we can be regarded as a threat."

Palmer was only recently appointed Sunday Chidzambwa's successor at Leopards, but the new coach feels the recent break in PSL action came at the perfect time for him.

He said: "The 10-day break between the match against Ajax and now has helped me to settle in and learn more about my team and understand my players on and off the field."
