Matsatsantsa made things difficult for themselves when Edwin Gyimah received his marching orders for a professional foul on Cuthbert Malajila just two minutes into the second half.

However, Gavin Hunt's side managed to see out the remainder of the game to hang on for a share of the spoils against the Team of Choice.

SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams almost gifted the hosts the lead on eight minutes when he spilled a routine cross, but Mor Diouf cleared the danger before Malajila could pounce.

The Pretoria giants finally threatened through Ashley Hartog on 18 minutes, but he failed to test Shu-aib Walters, who watched his shot sail harmlessly over the crossbar.

Orlando Smeekes should have put Maritzburg in front on 26 minutes as he beat the offside trap after running onto a long ball from Mario Booysen, but his shot was tame and easily dealt with by Williams.

The visitors suffered a setback on 47 minutes when Gyimah was dismissed for pulling back Malajila as the striker went through on goal.

They didn't lie down though, with Hartog heading just over from Jabulani Maluleke's free-kick on 59 minutes.

Both teams had chances to steal all three points at the death with SuperSport substitute Sibusiso Zuma sending his curling free-kick just inches away from the top corner, while at the other end Terrence Mandaza was denied by a brilliant save from Williams as he connected with Ruben Cloete's low cross
