The Mother City outfit are currently languishing 13th in the PSL standings follow a horror start to the season, which culminated in the sacking of coach Maarten Stekelenburg last month.
Jan Pruijn has since been brought in as interim boss but suffered his first defeat against Free State Stars on Wednesday, but Billiat believes a coach can only do so much and that the rest is down to the squad.
"We are obviously aware of the situation and the standings never lie," he told Football411. "We got ourselves in this mess and the truth is, only we can change that. As players we can only change it by performances.
"It's been long, tough and a difficult situation for us as players, too.
"There are positives at the moment; we trust and believe in each other and that is something that has been missing for a while, but regardless of that, we can never be satisfied, especially with the results because we only want to get better and move forward.
"I know with the chances I get, I'm supposed to change the situation by scoring goals, I'm working hard on that, I believe in myself and still trying to get that confidence back."
The 22-year-old midfielder saw his international career ended, along with the rest of the Zimbabwe national team following its disbandment by the Zimbabwe Football Association following the well-publicised match-fixing scandal.
Billiat, though, says he will not allow that dark moment in his country's sporting history distract from his performances for the Urban Warriors.
"We can say whatever we want to say but they (ZIFA) have made their decisions and we cannot argue with that because it is their jobs to make decisions," he added.
"All I know is that I will not let anyone come across my career. At the moment I'm focused on doing the fighting on the field for Ajax."
