Van de Laak watched as the Urban Warriors sank to their fifth PSL defeat of the season, a 2-1 loss at Free State Stars on Wednesday.

It was Jan Pruijn's first loss in three matches after he appeared to have steadied the ship since taking charge at Ikamva.

Van de Laak has backed Pruijn to revive the club's flagging fortunes while revealing his desperation to get back on the field following injury.

He told Football411.com: "Obviously I was sad to see Maarten (Stekelenburg) go, he was a great coach and certainly was not the one to blame. But we now have a great coach in Jan (Pruijn)."

"After Maarten, we had to build some confidence and start from zero, he's (Pruijn) done a great job in doing that, we are working together as a team and playing good football.

"I am also working hard to regain match fitness and so I can help the team move forward.

"I'm pushing myself to be fit again soon, hopefully before Sunday. I want to help the team win games. I want to play a big role and also try to support the youngsters."

The 30-year-old also shared his thoughts on Granwald Scott's decision to step down as captain.

"As a club we haven't had the greatest starts to the season. We've played some good games, but results haven't really gone our way.

"A lot of people are saying Scott played well before he was captain, I would love to see that.

"I've been captain before, and with me, it boosted my confidence and my game, but if it affects your game, than giving it up is the best decision to make."
