Zimbabwe's national team was disbanded on Friday as the well-publicised match-fixing scandal continues to be investigated.

ZIFA president Cuthbert Dube questioned the integrity of the team in its last match two weeks ago after letting a 3-1 aggregate lead slip against Angola to miss out on qualification for next year's African Cup of Nations, but Mugeyi believes they should have tried another way of sanctioning.

"I think as difficult as it is for them, they should have tried another way of doing things while continuing with their investigations, because the outcomes are hugely anticipated by a lot of players and that is disturbing them in their careers, which is probably the reason we even failed to qualify for the AFCON," he told Football411.

"The list had 96 names and it has been a tough period for these players and their careers. Disbanding the team is not the cleverest of ideas and it is also not good for Zimbabwe's future in football.

"Saying they will look to the U/20 and U/23's, that is wrong, these young players need to be gradually introduced but not thrown in the deep end like ZIFA is doing. Imagine if they had to play Nigeria now?"

Mugeyi also revealed how the investigation has come to affect the Urban Warriors duo of Khama Billiat and Paul Rusike.

"They are both very young players and Khama is finding it really hard because his still awaiting his fate, there's been talks that he may be banned for two-years and already he's worried about what he's going to do should he get banned.

"But they are both definitely affected by the whole thing I'm working extra hard in keeping them positive."
