A statement released at the beginning of September revealed that Pirates appeared before SAFA on two matters - both spectator misbehaviour charges.

"They made an application at the hearing for the matters to be postponed pending the resolution of another DC matter (relating to the Ziwa Mo finals) which is on appeal with SAFA.

"The League opposed Pirates' application. The case was adjourned to allow the League time to prepare submission documents to oppose the postponement."

The Premier Soccer League subsequently announced "that cases involving spectator misbehaviour have been suspended pending an outcome of an appeal made by Orlando Pirates to SAFA Appeals Board".

Pirates challenged the interpretation of Rule 53.2.3 and Rule 53.3.4 of the National Soccer League (NSL) "that they are strictly/vicariously liable for the conduct of their spectators."

But after the SAFA Appeals Board sat on Friday evening, they found that the Bucs had been found them guilty of spectator misbehaviour.

The statement read: "This relates to spectator invasion of the pitch at the Telkom Knockout Final 2011/12, where Orlando Pirates played against BidVest Wits at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

"The Appeals Board dismissed the appeal with costs, including wasted costs of the previous sitting that was postponed."
