The Citizens ran their Championship opponents ragged at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with Aleksandar Kolarov and David Silva also on target in the 5-0 rout.

The Argentine, who has now scored 15 goals this season, was withdrawn in the 76th minute with Platt explaining it was a precautionary measure.

He said: "His hamstrings just tightened up at the end, which is why we took him off.

"Hopefully, with a couple of days rest he will be back again and ready for next week."

It is the second time in three years The Citizens have reached the last four of the competition.

Platt added: "Carlos has got better as the season has gone on.

"He had a little patch where he didn't score goals but he has had efforts on goal and was full value for this hat-trick."
