Kevin Prince Boateng opened the scoring in the 57th minute with Sulley Muntari securing the win with 81 minutes played.

And while Barcelona dominated large chunks of the match they failed to create much in the way of clear-cut chances.

Fabregas though was not surprised by the result and after the match, he told Sky Sports: "It is not a shock, we know it can happen.

"But when you look at what this team has done for the past five years then the only thing in your mind is positive. We know we can do it.

"So, we do not need to be down from this."

He added: "We were not at our best at all. I think we paid a bit physically. We had a few players who were playing at their limit.

"We knew that but, still, we should have done better. I think it will be a very exciting second leg."

Barcelona have endured a busy schedule of late and face Sevilla on Saturday before a double header against Real Madrid, in the Copa del Rey and La Liga - ahead of their Champions League second leg clash at Camp Nou on 12th March.
