Benitez: Eyes QPR scalp

Chelsea head into their New Year's Day clash with basement side Queens Park Rangers in fine form that has seen them win their last four Premier League matches.

After overcoming Sunderland 3-1 away from home, Rafa Benitez's side thumped Aston Villa 8-0, edged Norwich 1-0 and showed their resilience to come from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 last time out.

QPR conversely remain with just one win all season, a 2-1 victory over Fulham earlier this month, and were easily defeated 3-0 by Liverpool on Sunday.

While Harry Redknapp remains confident his troops can beat the drop, Benitez is starting to believe the Blues can genuinely challenge Manchester City and Manchester United for the league title.

Rangers currently occupy 20th place with just 10 points, some eight points from safety, while their London rivals are in third with 38 points, four adrift of City and 11 behind leaders United.

Park Ji-Sung (knee) and Bobby Zamora (hip) are both set to miss out for QPR with injury, while Jose Bosingwa is expected to be benched again following his refusal to be a substitute for the Fulham clash, for which he has subsequently issued an apology.

Chelsea, meanwhile, must continue to make do without John Terry, who is still on the comeback trail from a knee injury.

Peter Cech was forced out of the Toffees win with a groin strain and will undergo a scan on Tuesday to determine the full extent of the injury.
