Chilli Boys: defeat in their first derby

Friday night's Cape derby had a little bit of everything. Football411 was at the post match conference to get the coaches' views on the match which was won 3-2 by Ajax.

It was a drama-filled and action-packed PSL encounter throughout as Ajax went 1-0 up, before Chippa United scored twice to make it 2-1 at half-time.

But some amateur defending from the Chilli Boys allowed the Urban Warriors to score two unanswered goals to claim victory in the first ever derby between the two teams.

Here's what the coaches had to say:

Farouk Abrahams on goalkeeper Daoudo Kassally trying to dribble Khama Billiat, which led to the winning goal for Ajax:

"The next time the keeper will kick the ball out. He won't be the last goalkeeper to have a goal scored like that. Its a mind thing - the guy is sitting there with an empty look in his eyes.

"How he comes back is up to him. You can talk to him and soothe him, but he's an international and playing at the Nations Cup. If I drop him now what will that do for his confidence."

On his first loss in four games:

"But my philosophy is that there is a supreme plan, you can play football 24-7 but if God has willed Ajax to win, they will win. Nobody has the divine right to win all football games.

"We had three chances to score in the last 20 minutes with Diego Brown making good runs down the left and with Andile Mbenyane hitting the bar.

"Football is about moments, you can be so tired and still score a goal. It's not to do with luck, we just never played the important moments correctly."

Ajax coach Jan Pruijn's assement of the game:

"We didn't play to their weaknesses as we should have in the first half. We still have problems with scoring goals.

"I said at half-time the players were acting like school-boys - having scored a goal we are still celebrating two minutes later and are not concentrating with a simple throw-in [which led to Chippa equalising just after Ajax's opening goal]."

On the wayward Brazilian striker Wanderson, who scored the winner (who strangely celebrated Orlando Pirates-style by crossing his hands to make the cross-bones sign):

"I said before the game to Wanderson if he gives three of the first five balls away I will take him off at half time, the problem is still translation.

"He gave three away, so at half time I said I would give him 15 minutes, and that he must play a little bit more clever, more simple and more inside. We were on the verge of taking him out, luckily he just scored before that."
