Liverpool scored twice in the last 15 minutes as they came from behind to clinch an impressive 3-2 victory at West Ham United on Sunday.

The win lifts Brendan Rodgers' side into the top half of the Premier League table for the first time this season as they claimed only their second away success of the campaign.

With Luis Suarez suspended for the Reds and Carlton Cole ploughing a lone furrow in attack for the Hammers, a goal frenzy seemed unlikely but the visitors took the lead in the 11th minute.

Former West Ham star Glen Johnson, who was allowed far too much space in the opening 20 minutes, surged forward before lashing a superb right-footed shot from the edge of the area which nestled in the top corner of Jussi Jaaskelainen's net.

Minutes later Johnson set up Raheem Sterling who fired wide when he should really have doubled their lead.

Liverpool's impressive play was disrupted though when Jose Enrique had to be substituted after picking up an injury and Sam Allardyce's side took full advantage.

After Joe Allen was adjudged to have handled Guy Demel's 36th-minute piledriver, Mark Noble fired the Hammers level from the spot before, in the 43rd minute, Matt Jarvis whipped in a great free-kick that Steven Gerrard could only head into his own net.

The hosts dominated most of the second period as Liverpool struggled, but they equalised out of the blue with 14 minutes left when Sterling sent another ex-Hammer, substitute Joe Cole, running clear and he fired a low shot past Jaaskelainen.

Almost immediately Liverpool grabbed the winner when Jonjo Shelvey and James Collins attempted to get on the end of Jordan Henderson's cross and the ball looped over former Bolton goalkeeper Jaaskelainen.

Shelvey thought he should have won a penalty in stoppage time when he appeared to be tripped by Winston Reid but, although the referee waved play on, the Reds had already done enough to secure three welcome points.
